Hello Everyone!
2009 was a very strange weather year for Maine -- it rained nearly the entire summer. The last two years were inter-mixed with drought, wind and scary lightening, so constant rain was somewhat of a relief. September has been beautiful!
Foliage hasn't been really good the last several years. It seems as though when the weather turns the leaves look brown and a little burned.
BUT, we invested in two columnar apple trees this year and they did extraordinary well. Of course, the trees didn't produce this first year, but they leafed beautifully and grew. Jeff and I weren't sure the trees were going to be a good investment (because they were expensive) but, as it turns out we're very happy with them and hope for a harvest this next year.
The Reliance peach tree we planted several years ago also did well although we had to spray several times to keep the "bugs from hell" off them.
We sincerely hope everyone has a warm winter! We will be busy with rice pads.
